Prof. Rimantas Kėvalas has been working at the Children's Diseases Clinic of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Hospital since 1986. His main area of specialization is General Paediatrics and Paediatric Intensive Care.
He was appointed Head of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit in 1992 and headed the Unit until 2013. From 2000 to 2001 he worked at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. In 2001, he worked as an intensive care registrar and paediatrician in the Emergency Department.
From 2001 to the present day, he has been the Head of the Paediatric Clinic, Assoc. Prof. Prof. of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences since 2007, and since 2016 - Professor.
His consultative practice includes general paediatric cases, seriously ill patients and children in critical condition, as well as a wide range of general paediatric pathologies.
At the same time, he has developed his expertise through postgraduate studies and on-the-job training in various hospitals (Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, USA, Israel), adopting the best clinical practices.
In 1998, with the support of the American Heart Association, he became a Paediatric Advanced Life Support instructor, and later the Chief instructor of the PALS course and a UNICEF expert in paediatric emergencies.
His main teaching activities are lectures and seminars for students, residents, and postgraduate physicians at universities.
Research contributions: traumatic brain injury, hypothermia, nosocomial infections in the PICU, septic shock, fever in infants and young children, the frequently ill child, paediatric immunology, Long COVID syndrome.
